HawkVideo is a video surveillance and monitoring application that uses a PC to capture, record and manipulate images from security cameras or video systems.
Images can be captured continuously, at specified intervals, or only when movement or changes are detected. The images can be saved in a number of formats and can be reviewed and manipulated after capture. By using these advanced techniques, the volume of image data that is stored on the computer is kept to a minimum.
A special feature of HawkVideo is the ability to integrate images so that the effective sensitivity of a camera can be considerably enhanced especially under low light conditions. This technique can reveal details that would be invisible to a conventional surveillance system.
The HawkVideo software is compatible with most video capture devices and web cameras. The only requirement being that the camera or capture device itself provides a Video for Windows (VfW) driver or that the operating system provides a VfW wrapper for any other driver.
As well as the familiar user interface, HawkVideo can be completely controlled by a powerful script interpreter. By compiling a simple text file of commands, HawkVideo can operate fully automatically around the clock. For example, it can be programmed to start and stop image capture at specified times, to change the operating mode at different times of the day; it can even be programmed to store straight images during daylight and to switch to integration mode (low-light enhancement) after dark.
HawkVideo can be downloaded freely and comes in a self-extracting ZIP file which automatically installs itself. The file size is 744k.
